The protein vaccine is a new exploration of traditional vaccine enginnering. Scientists hope it can delay the onset of Alzheimer's disease by five years.
Alzheimer's is caused by amyloid precursor protein, a protein that resides in the outer membrane of nerve cells, which instead of being broken down forms a harmful substance called betamyloid, accumulating plaques and killing brain cells.
